Meeting Mr Right
Be careful of this person name Shaun Paul Tolentino, he's born on May 17, 1976. His former name was Shaun Paul Monsson. He likes to introduce himself as Shaun Paul. What happened to me might happen again to you because it happened before in his previous relationships.
I met him on FilipinoCupid.com dating site. We started talking early of July, 2015 and we first met on July 18th. To make story short, we moved to a relationship and he gained my trust. We planned on future to get married and raise a family as I thought he is a descent man and a nice guy.
I got pregnant with him. We planned on moving in together by January 2016 but it never happened. He left me (he just disappeared before my eyes) when I was 5 month pregnant leaving me with all the debts of more than $120K I incurred to support his plan of being a truck owner operator. On top of that I also gave him my savings approx. $22K just to make his plan happen thinking it would be for the both of us for our future together.
So...
One day he phoned me, asking money to buy a Freightliner truck he found on Craigslist. He said that he will do business with the truck doing long distance trucking. He will make money so he can make monthly payments. I don't want to do it but because he said he will make payments and he will make good money for us to raise our baby I did it. We went to the bank and withdrawn $22,000 in cash in my credit line. The bank asked if I would like it in bank draft but Shaun said "No", he needed it in cash. Then he left with the cash and bought the truck. I wanted the truck to be in both our name but he said, he's the owner operator so has to be in his name. I was really naive about how things work in the trucking business so he has it in his name. I didn't even suspect on anything because I didn't know a lot of things in Canada. I just really believed he's just a regular man who wanted the best for his future family.
Next thing, he called me asking for another $7,200 cash. He said he needed truck repairs to pass safety check or else he can't start trucking. So we went to the bank and withdrawn the amount. He also asked me to buy his truck mattress ($334.88), food cooler and some tools for the truck and that costs $395.94. He also asked, $800 for truck painting.
I have been paying monthly payments on my credit cards because he said he just started a job, he is not making that much money yet. I paid for the month of September, October and November.
On September he phoned me and said, the truck really need get engine done as in complete overhual at will cost over $25,000. He said, he has to do it cause the company ask him to fix his truck otherwise he can't do trucking. So he went to KNW Diesel in Surrey to get it done. Truck was done and his bill was like 0ver $27,000 and he will have to pay 4 monthly payments.
While the truck work is in progress, Shaun was working on where to get money so he can get the truck out once work is complete. He said to me, we will loan a vehicle with a cashback so that we can use that money to pay KNW Diesel. To make it short he successfully got a RAM truck loan with a $15,000 cash back. The loan is in my name because he didn't have a good credit standing to get a loan. However, the vehicle somehow is in his name. Somehow I did signed a paper that I didn't fully understand which is a transfer ownership document. Anyway, out of $15,000 he left me $2,000 so I can pay bi-weekly payments of $400+ for this vehicle. That being said, the $13,000 should cover 2 payments but I learned later he never did.
Shaun also applied me an RBC credit card and I authorized it because he said it's for emergency purposes. Shaun told me that he wants to pay 2 payments for the truck instead of just one so that it's safer if he missed the next month, the company will not repossess the truck. He wants this credit card to pay one payment and 2nd from the cash back. I don't really want to activate it because I have enough debts and he is not even making any payments yet but he said, if I don't help him he will lost everything and will moved to Calgary. He will then just send me money bi-weekly to pay bank debts. I'm pregnant so my option would be to help him out. I paid KNW Diesel $6,875 with my RBC card.
He also phoned me saying he was frozen in his truck. He need to fix his truck heater so I email transfer him what he asked $1,600.
November came, he phoned me said, it's time to pay the 3rd payment and he didn't have enough money because he is new owner operator he will not get paid for like 2 months for some reason. So he came over to Vancouver and he asked $10,000 cash which came out from my credit line.
He has not contacted me for few days and thinking he was only busy working and no signal on the road. I texted him and said that I needed him to start making payments because I can't make anymore payments and didn't get any reply. Texted him again after few days and his reply said, "I have been packing, I found a new place I was going to surprise you but you're so makulit (it's Filipino word for persistent) but now I'm back at work."
He didn't phone, he wouldn't answer my call. He blocked me on his phone. I talked to a friend, told him what happened and he told me to phone KNW Diesel if he make payments on the engine. So I phoned KNW Diesel found out he only made 1 payment and that's the one I paid with my visa. They also told me he had never driven that truck at all after he got back the truck in October 16. They also said he sold the truck and they're looking for him.I was just completely shocked, didn't expect any of these happened. All those times he made me believed he was driving hard to make money so he can make payments. He took all those money from me and just like that he turn around and sold the truck without my knowledge. He took off with the RAM truck which he then abandoned on the street parking after his moved.
We drove to his place and he was gone. All I can say was just "WOW" and crying of course.
I hope I learn a lesson.
I spent a Grand Total of $67,985.53 cash towards him. I declared bankruptcy in January 2016 due to being unable to repay the debts especially when your having a baby and starting from scratch.
When he disappeared I made my own research and these what I found:
A) He was married to a Filipina in Saskatchewan and has 1 child.
B) He changed his name in 2007 from Shaun Paul Monsson to Shaun Paul Tolentino .
C) He is married to another Filipino woman with 2 kids with him but separated
D) He got 3 kids with another Filipino woman
E) He got criminal records in Manitoba including frauds
F) Another familiar story http://cc.bingj.com/cache.aspx?q=shaun+paul+tolentino&d=4775507333687236&mkt=en-CA&setlang=en-US&w=TXV2-pmQRfh7pm6ukm6ijuM7KxeFuGhp
A year later, I learned this story has repeated to another girl in Calgary. Same old story, dating site to relationship then start asking her money to buy a truck for business. He also loaned her a RAM truck with cashback. The girl has have a hard time contacting him for payments. She didn't know he already left she just thought he's working. While Shaun is in Calgary with this girl, he was with another Filipino girl and he proposed to marry this other girl but good thing it never happened.
